Confirmation at Our Lady Immaculate & St Andrew

Our policy is in the process of evolution, but for the time being this is what we are intending to carry out. For those who are 14 or over in September, we would begin a journey of preparation from the autumn, with the possibility of celebrating the Sacrament roughly a year later. The Programme centres on two weekends and two other days during the course of the year. In between various projects are undertaken. A time to consider readiness for the Sacramnent is accompanied by a talk with the Parish Priest

The Godparents of each Candidate should be involved through prayer and other support, as well as by attending and sharing any of the Sessions, which call for their presence. Sponsors should be those who were Godparents at the Baptism of the Candidate, as they should have accompanied the young person over the intervening years. If this is not possible for any reason, then a person in whom the young person has trust and confidence should be chosen, for this special Journey of Faith.

The support and interest of other members of the family is most cordially welcomed.

The actual course would have rather fewer dates than previously, but with more intense and group orientated meetings over a half-day or with day length times.

A letter of application would need to be written to the Parish Priest, giving personal reasons why candidates feel that they are ready to make the Journey. The Programme would involve personal and group work and taking part in an activity of pastoral use to the Parish, for a couple of months or so. This activity underlines the importance of becoming actively involved in the Parish once the Sacrament has been celebrated. Further enquiries can be made to the Parish Office.

The name for Confirmation should be the one given in Baptism, as the Sacrament is the personal commitment to the Baptismal Vows that were made at the time of Baptism by the Parents and Godparents. It is not necessary to choose another name.

Once the Sacrament has been celebrated, those who have been confirmed should be prepared to enter into the life of the Parish more fully and use the Gifts of the Spirit and their own innate talents to build up and develop the Body of Christ, which is our Parish.Programmes of training for the various ministries will be provided.
