Marriage at Our Lady Immaculate & St Andrew
Couples who wish to celebrate the Covenant of Marriage must contact one of the Priests of the Parish AT LEAST six months before the Wedding; preferably as soon as the engagement takes place - to begin the journey of preparation.
We arrange a Marriage Preparation Course, once a year, usually a Saturday in February or March: please see the Newsletter. We expect our Engaged Couples to attend this Course, which is normally held in Our Lady's School, in Old Hale Way.
A Certificate of attendance on the Course is issued to the engaged couples. Inability to attend our Marriage Course means that the obligation to find another Course is firmly with the couple: it is essential that some form of in-depth study be undertaken. Dates are available for Days at London Colney at the Westminster Diocese Pastoral Centre: details are available from Pat and Pauline Haines on 01442 392618.
You will also need to meet with one of the Priests of the Parish, to prepare the papers, the Wedding Service and other matters.
Documents required:
A Baptismal Certificate that is less than 6 months old at the time of applying to join the Course (Catholic party) For a Christian of another Tradition: sight of the Baptismal Certificate, details of which are entered in the Marriage papers. A letter from either or both Parents (of the Non Catholic Party) that before meeting the fiancé (e), that s/he was unmarried. A Letter of Freedom is required from any Parish, where the Catholic party has lived for two or more years, since leaving home. Time at University or College counts as living at home. A Certificate of Confirmation for the Catholic Party.
If there are pastoral issues to be discussed, then make an appointment with the Priest, as soon as possible, so that everything can run smoothly and any issues are resolved.
You will need to hand in notice of intention to marry to the Registrar of the area where you are living, each of you needs to do this, if one is living outside Hitchin district. This can be done up to a year before the Wedding. The blue certificate, once it is issued, needs to be given to the Priest, so that he can eventually perform the civil side of the Wedding.
For those who are intending to marry in Ireland
a green civil certificate needs to be obtained, three months before the Wedding to permit this. The other proceedings are the same, but, as the papers have to go through Westminster Chancery Office and then the sent to the Office of the Diocese in Ireland and then on to the Parish concerned for the actual wedding, then a longer time would be good to have in mind for the preparation. There is no need to hand in notice at the Registry Office in England (for the Irish wedding).
The Address and Phone Number of the Registrar's office is as follows:
Stevenage Register Office, Danesgate, Stevenage, SG1 1WW; Telephone: 01438 - 316579 Times of Opening: Monday to Friday: 9.30am - 12.30pm; 1.30pm - 4.30pm Saturday: 9.00am - 10.00am | |
